Eugene Long Obituary

Born: Oct. 26, 1933; in Park Falls, Wis.
Died: June 7, 2011; in Adams, Wis.

ADAMS, Wis. – Eugene "Gene" C. Long, 77, of Adams, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2011, in Adams after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Eugene was born Oct. 26, 1933, in Park Falls, Wis., to Charles and Anna (Seifert) Long.

He attended schools in Park Falls and then he worked as a lumberjack for two years prior to moving to St. Charles in 1954. He began his apprenticeship to become a carpenter and worked for several companies and retried as superintendent of construction for Driessen Construction after 30 years. In 1996 he moved to Adams and built his retirement home.

Gene enjoyed annual fishing trips to Red Lake, Canada. He also enjoyed hunting, archery and woodworking. Gene was an avid Chicago Bears and later a Green Bay Packers fan.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, the Illinois Carpenters Union, St. Charles Sportsmans Club and Aurora Land Archery Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.

He is survived by his daughter, Terrie (Michael) Parsons of St. Charles; son, Gary (Peggy) Long of Elburn; stepson, Rodney (Laura) Osborne of St. Charles; grandchildren, Scott Parsons of South Elgin, Brian Parsons of St. Charles and Wade Lindquist of Elburn; and his nieces, cousins and his special companion, "Buddy."

A memorial visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St. (corner of routes 25 and 64), St. Charles.

Very sorry to hear of Gene's passing.Gene was a valued employee of ours for years and from my first days on the jobs took me in and taught me over the years an immeasurable amount of skills. Driessen construction very much appreciated his years of service with us. Very sorry that I missed his memorial.
