OREGON – Gerald "Jerry" Gorski, 81, of Oregon, Illinois, and formerly of Geneva, son of the late William and Marie (Hankus) Gorski, devoted husband of Diane (Vainowski) Gorski of Oregon, loving father of Donna Gorski of DeKalb, Geri Gorski of Aurora and John (Martha Peterson) Gorski of St. Johns, Florida, proud grandfather of Jack and Lauren of Florida, and brother of the late Robert (Dolores Koron) Gorski, passed away peacefully at Serenity Hospice Home in Oregon on June 16, 2014.

He was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Chicago. Jerry attended Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago, where he received a music scholarship, then transferred to Harper High School where he played varsity basketball and baseball. On weekends he played drums in a band.

Upon graduation in 1950 he served in the Navy during the Korean War. In 1954 Jerry married his wife of 60 years, moved to Geneva and joined the Illinois State Police. After serving 30 years with the Illinois State Police, he spent many years promoting the brotherhood and rights of policemen and was elected president of Troopers Lodge 41. He was then elected president of the Illinois State Police Fraternal Order of Police and served as National FPO Trustee for 14 years and a bailiff in Kane County. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 1551, Mt. Morris.

Jerry was an avid fisherman, traveling to Canada yearly since the age of 15, and played basketball, baseball and softball for many years with the Venetian Café team in Geneva. He enjoyed sports, especially the Chicago White Sox.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, at the St. Charles Moose, 2250 West Route 38, St. Charles. Memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice & Home, P.O.
