Helen Steer Cannon (Helen Ann) of St. Charles, IL, passed away peacefully on Feb 3, 2018, at home in St. Charles, IL with her children at her sides.

Helen was born in Champaign, IL on March 1, 1926, to loving parents, Oscar and Gladys Glenn Steer. Helen spent her childhood in Champaign and graduated from Urbana High School in 1944. She attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. and graduated in 1948, with a B.S. in Bacteriology. She continued to work at the university as an assistant to the Chairman of the History Department until beginning her family in Washington, IL.

Helen moved to St. Charles, IL with her family in 1965. She raised her three children while working for school District 303; she began her career as a teacher's assistant and eventually progressed to be the Transportation Coordinator responsible for creating, publishing, and maintaining all bus routes for the district.

Upon her retirement, Helen lived happily in the Timber's neighborhood among friends and neighbors of the Manor Home Association. She enjoyed the Fox River Valley area and focused her retirement years visiting with family, traveling, gardening (12-year-old geraniums), shoveling her driveway (at 91!!), and was quite pleased when both the Blackhawks and Cubs won their respective World Championships.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Gladys Glenn Steer.

She is survived by her children, Ann (Louis) Fritz of Baltimore, MD; Mike (Joan) Cannon of Noblesville, IN; Andrew (Sandra) Cannon of Granger, IN; and is also survived by brother, John O. Steer; sister-in-law, Juanita Steer of Urbana, IL and their children and grandchildren. In addition, Helen is survived by six grandchildren; Andrea, Elizabeth, Forrest, Faith, Taylor, Alexander as well as many cousins living in central Illinois.

A private service will be held this spring, her favorite season, at her burial place beside her parents in Urbana, IL.
