Born July 7, 1924 in Batavia, IL, he was the son of Walter and Pauline (nee. Paske) Stephano. He was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Betty Glasser, on November 25, 1944, in Batavia, IL. Joe was a graduate of Batavia High School and showed true Bulldog spirit all of his life.

Joe was a veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps at the end of World War II, and influenced two of his grandsons who now serve in the US Air Force. Joe was a consummate salesman, working for a variety of companies, most notably sales manager for DuKane Corporation of St. Charles and Zenith Electronics, from which he retired. He loved to travel, was an avid golfer with one hole in one on his resume, amateur photographer, die-hard Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed going out to eat with family and friends. Joe was a long-time member of the St. Charles Country Club, the Batavia American Legion, the Boys Club, and a life-long member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia. He loved visiting and spending time with his children and grandchildren and was proud of their individual achievements.
