Marica J. Stidley Obituary
Marcia Jean Stidley

Born: October 22, 1927; in DeKalb, IL

Died: April 14, 2018; in Naperville, IL

Marcia Jean Stidley, age 90, died peacefully on April 14, 2018, at Sunrise of Naperville North, Naperville, Illinois, after hospitalization for a stroke earlier in the week. She began life on October 22, 1927, in DeKalb, Illinois.

Marcia lived in DeKalb until she enrolled at the University of Illinois, where she studied accounting and met Leonard Hill Stidley. They married in DeKalb on February 5, 1949, despite the fact Marcia was sick with the flu. Except for a period during which her husband was stationed in California after returning from his naval service in Korea, Marcia lived in Illinois. After spending her early years as a farm girl, she always loved seeing crops growing in the rich, dark soil and did not want to live elsewhere.

During the years her children were young, Marcia raised her children and her gardens. She used her bookkeeping skills to create meticulous household ledgers and prepare her family's tax returns. While residing in Sheridan, Illinois, she also served as treasurer for the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service and the Parent Teacher Association. When her children were older, Marcia began working outside the home, soon working in her favorite field, bookkeeping. While she lived in Morris, Illinois, in the days before the personal computer, she enjoyed her jobs working for a car dealership and a road construction contractor. She loved the challenge of a complex set of ledgers.

Marcia lived in a house on an acre lot in the Winden Oaks subdivision outside of Elburn, Illinois, for almost 40 years. She loved looking across the backyard to a farm and savoring the view of the rich, dark soil and growing crops. She moved to Sunrise for her last two and a half years, where she had the helpful hands of many greatly appreciated staff and the nearby support of her son, Keith.

Marcia enjoyed playing games and puzzles. She loved mental challenges and would play with family, friends, neighbors and her Commodore 64 - she was a true M.U.L.E. enthusiast. Marcia was quick witted and loved to banter. She will be fondly missed.

Marcia was predeceased by Leonard, her husband of 63 years; and her eldest son, Gerald Brent Stidley of Woodbridge, Virginia. She was also predeceased by her parents, Charles Harwood Bannister and Ethel Caroline Bannister (Holmgren); and her brothers, Russell Owen Bannister and Loren Willard Bannister.

Surviving Marcia are her children, Sharon Lee Seedall (Bruce) of Gilbert, Arizona, Keith Albert Stidley of Lisle, Illinois, and Christine Aileen Stidley (Edward Bedrick) of Tucson, Arizona. Also surviving are six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date and cremated remains will be buried in Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
