ST. CHARLES – Rodney Lee Thompson passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles. Rodney (Rod) was born July 22, 1939, to Arthur and Irene (Hinrichs)Thompson at Geneva Hospital in Geneva. Preceeded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn (Edward) Burtch and grandson Mathew Hupp.

Survived by his wife of 38 years, Marie Thompson and his children; Jeffrey (Kathi) Thompson of Aurora, Mark Thompson of North Carolina and Julie Hupp (Steve) of Grayslake; Stepfather to Paige (David) Lewis of Geneva and Jeffrey (Dawn) Reynolds of Eden Prairie, Minn. He will be missed by his nine grandchildren: Lauren, Culin, Keara, Grant, Elyse, Mackenzie, Parker, Austin and Kennedy. Special companion, Captain Jack will miss him as well.

After graduation from St. Charles High School he had a long sales career in the automotive industry. He worked for Reber and Foley in St. Charles, County Tire in Crystal Lake and Zimmerman Lincoln Mercury in St. Charles; later joining Sun Electric and Bear Automotive. He established his own business, Thompson Auto-Equip in the early 1990s selling new and used auto tune-up equipment.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Yurs Funeral home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles, IL 60510, 630-584-0060, www.yursfuneralhomes.com. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m., burial at 2 p.m. at Lakewood Cemetery in Elgin.
