ST. CHARLES – Stanley Andrew Gillespie, age 63, of St. Charles, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012.
He was born Nov. 29, 1948, in Effingham, to Stanley and AnnaMae Gillespie. In the early 1950s the family moved to Chicago, where Stan spent his childhood and early adult life. In 1984, Stan and his wife moved to St. Charles to start the next phase in their lives. Stan worked for several years for the Kane County Forest Preserve. In 1992, he took a different direction and started his own company, Lee Home Improvement, which he operated until his death. During the 28 years that Stan resided in St. Charles, he was involved with many organizations throughout the Fox Valley area as a volunteer, sponsor or support resource. Those organizations included Cub Scout Pack 152 (Richmond School, St. Charles), local soccer, basketball and lacrosse youth programs. Stan touched many lives. He will be missed as a husband, father, brother, friend and go-to guy. Stan provided inspiration to all of us. He was known for always having a smile on his face.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, son Stanley, brother Jimmy (Hannah) of Franklin Park, sister Margie (John) Smith of Evergreen Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol and his nephew Jeremiah.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Yurs Funeral Home 405 E. Main St. (corner of Routes 64 and 25), St. Charles. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mooseheart Charities 155 S.
