Wayne A. Gower Obituary

ST. CHARLES – Wayne A. Gower, 98, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at his residence in St. Charles. He was born Oct. 4, 1914, in Lohrville, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Elfa (nee Atherton) Gower. He was united in marriage to Ruth McArthur on May 28, 1946, in Seney, Iowa.

Wayne proudly served his country from 1941 to 1945 with the 34 Signal Company of the 1 Division of the United States Army in campaigns in Northern Africa and Italy during WWII.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ruth Gower of St. Charles; his children, Bob (Janet) Gower of Houston, Texas, and Mary (Bill) Prechel of Minnetonka, Minn.; and his grandchildren, Dan and Laura Prechel.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his two brothers and his two sisters.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Ave., St. Charles, with visitation from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Lohrville, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Baker Memorial Methodist Church or CNS Hospice.
