ST. CHARLES – Denny Ayala, age 92, of St. Charles, passed away Jan. 18, 2014, peacefully at his home. He was born Sept. 18, 1921, to Simon and Augustina Ayala in Round Rock, Texas. He grew up in Geneva and graduated from Geneva High School. He married his loving wife, Blanche, of 57 years, making their home in St. Charles, where they raised their 10 children. He was a World War II Marine veteran. Denny was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he was known for opening the door for daily Mass each morning for over 42 years. Denny retired recently from Elgin Community College two years ago, where he had worked for more than 27 years.
He survived by nine children, Larry (Ettie) Ayala, Linda (Edward) Peterson, Anita Ayala, Darlene (Bob) Stellwagen, Diane (Dale) Wilderspin, Gary (Maureen) Ayala, Rita (David) Cuevas, Denise Service, Joseph (Chris) Ayala; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cora (Jesse) Ramariz, and Mary McNally; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife; toddler son Denny Jr., daughter Susan; and great-grandson Blake.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., (corner of Routes 25 and 64), St. Charles. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 400 Cedar St., St. Charles. Contributions may be made to St. Patrick Church.
