Patricia C. Francis, age 79, died August 4, 2014, following a long illness. She was born December 1st 1934, in Washington DC, daughter of the late Milton and Helen Collins. She was the oldest of three siblings: her brother Jack (Nancy) Collins; her sister Sue Nunn, and is preceded in death by her brother Chip Collins.
Pat was a 35 year resident of St. Charles, IL and was an active member of the community. She was a member of the Pottawatomie Garden club for many years, and held several Board positions leading up to presidency of the group. She also focused on fundraising with Restoration of Kane County (now Preservation Partner's) and held terms as secretary and president of the historic agency.
While chair of the Public Art Committee in St. Charles she raised funds for, and placed three public art projects: The Pottawatomie Park mural at S. 2nd Street and Illinois; the vignette mural at Rt. 64 and S. 1st Ave., and the Fox Cycle Sculpture along the Fox River. Pat was a volunteer with The Arts Society and The Gallery Committee of the Norris Cultural Center; The Delnor-Community Auxiliary Antique Show and The State's Attorney's Second Chance Program.
She was also an active member of Thornapple Questers, an antique study group. In addition, she served on the Board of Director's Executive Committee of the Arthritis Foundation, Illinois Chapter, out of its Chicago office and was directly involved with patient services. She was honored with the "Distinguished Service Award" for her work with the foundation.
Pat moved to Flat Rock, NC in 2007. She was an active member of the Garden Club there. She enjoyed the frequent get together's with the ladies in her book club. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Lee, going to the theater, reading, gardening, antiquing, and had an eye for decorating. Pat was especially proud of all the accomplishments of her children and her grandchildren.
Patricia is survived by Lee, her husband of 59 years: her daughter Lynda (Rob) Walsh of Bend, OR; Susan (Chris) Basis of Gig Harbor, WA; Jay (Tracy) Francis of Geneva, IL and Steve (Outi) Francis of Bainbridge Island, WA; grandchildren: Kelly Walsh; Caroline and Rosie Basis; Andy Francis and Matias, Sami and Kai Francis.
Private family services will be held Saturday, August 30th at Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor, WA.
