Robert William Bell, 94, of Elgin, Illinois died at home on Saturday, August 23, 2014.
He was born March 11, 1920, at St. Mary's Hospital in DeKalb, Illinois to Robert and Margaret (Christensen) Bell and attended St. Mary's Grade School, DeKalb High School and the University of Illinois.
He married Eleanor McCabe on December 30, 1950, in Maple Park, Illinois. Bob entered the Army in 1941, serving in the 27th Infantry in the South Pacific. After coming home in 1945, he was employed as a District Sales Manager by the Wurlitzer Company in DeKalb. In 1960, he became the co-owner of Bell Morford Piano & Organ Co. in Elgin. Later he served as a bailiff for the 16th Judicial Court in Geneva. Bob was a member of St. Laurence Parish, the Elks, American Legion and Golden K.
Surviving are: his wife, Eleanor, of Elgin; children, Sharon (Ed) Slezak of Mundelein, David (Terri) Bell of Oswego, Patricia (Steve) Janik of Wheaton; and grandchildren, Melissa (Patrick) Van Camp, Kerri Slezak, and Mary, Jeff, and Christina Bell; along with special caregiver Kim Diego.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 27, at St. Laurence Catholic Church. Burial with honors will be at River Valley Memorial Gardens in West Dundee. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Wednesday, from 9:15 A.M. until the time of mass in the church.
