Ruth Sorensen, 91, formerly of Batavia, passed away April 21, 2012, at Morningside Memory and Nursing home in South Bend, Ind.
She was born May 22, 1920, in Racine, Wis., to George and Irene McNamara Spring. She married Erwin H. Sorensen on Nov. 20, 1943, in Pampa, Texas. He died June 19, 2007, in Batavia.
One brother, Franklin Spring; and two sisters, Lorraine Zwicky and Lucille Druecker, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Erwin 'Skip" (Roberta) Sorensen of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Robert (Barbara) of Granger, Ind.; one brother, Donald (Evelyn) Spring of St. Paul, Minn.; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Ros, Kristine (Derek) Alter, Jeffrey (Nicole) Sorensen and Elisabeth Sorensen; and five great-grandchildren, Caroline, Molly, Julianne, and Christopher Ros and Samantha Alter.
Ruth grew up in Racine, Wis., and graduated from Horlick High School. She married her husband of 63 years while he was serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After moving to Batavia in 1948, she worked at Geneva Modern Kitchens and Burgess Norton for more than 25 years in the reception and accounting departments. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was very active in the Altar and Rosary Society, the Batavia Women's Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and her nine-hole golf league.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Moss Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31), Batavia.
Funeral services will begin with prayers at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26, before proceeding to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 W. Main St., Batavia, for Mass at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Geneva.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church.
