BATAVIA – Maynard F. Aurit, 76, of Batavia, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at his residence. He was born July 28, 1937, in Lafayette County, Wis., the son of Joseph and Estella (nee Sheffer) Aurit. He was united in marriage to Alicia Lazaro on Sept. 22, 1973, in Chicago.
Maynard was a graduate from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a degree in social work and psychology. He later returned to college and obtained a degree in anesthetist nursing. He was employed by Delnor Hospital and retired from Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora.
?During his 20s, he played the saxophone and led a band with other family members called Maynard's Sax and His Orchestra. They were based out of Benton, Wis., and played at many area night clubs in that area. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia.
He is survived by his wife, Alicia; three daughters, Natalie Jaime of Batavia, Amber (Matt) Thomas of Bloomington and Shelley (Matt) Daugherty of Oro Valley, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Angelena Jaime and Anika Thomas; three brothers, Norbert (Lillian) Aurit of Janesville, Wis., Bernarr (Ardice) Aurit of Janesville, Wis., and Richard (Sharon) Aurit of Madison, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Jaime; a brother, Wayne Aurit; and a sister, Pauline Johnson.
The visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia.
Funeral services will start with prayers from the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, before proceeding to Holy Cross Catholic Church to celebrate funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Geneva.
