Gordon F. Howe, 89, of Geneva, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2014.
He was born July 3, 1924, in Chicago, the son of Robert and Meta (Kampfer) Howe.
Gordon grew up in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago and became a devoted Chicago Cubs fan. He loved other Chicago teams, especially the Chicago Bears and the Blackhawks.
Gordon served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in pharmacy.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen (Lang), three children, Richard of Geneva, Gail (David) Simpson of St. Charles and Robert of Streamwood; four grandchildren, Jacob (Rachel) Simpson, Rebecca (Brandon) LaBarre, Benjamin Simpson, Madeline Simpson; and two great-grandchildren, Jonah LaBarre and Evangeline Simpson.
Gordon and Helen are members of Hosanna Lutheran Church in St. Charles. Gordon will best be remembered for his kind, gentle and reserved nature. He only had kind words to say about everyone.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
An opportunity to visit with the family will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 29 at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St., Geneva. A memorial service will follow at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Hosanna Lutheran Church.
