Ainsworth resident, 31 KEARNEY - Amos G. Assarsson, 31, of Ainsworth died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hoch Funeral Home in Ainsworth. Burial will be at Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. He was born Sept. 8, 1981, in Ainsworth to Bill and Deb Assarsson. Survivors include his parents of Ainsworth; brothers, Josh of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Festus of Ainsworth; grandparents, Elizabeth Strand and Clifford and Pauline Assarsson, all of Ainsworth, and Virginia Oman of Kearney; and great-grandmother, Ruth Assarsson of Bassett. Gibbon resident, 82
KEARNEY - Ilis J. Burr, 82, of Gibbon died Monday, May 20, 2013, at St. Luke's Good Samaritan Village in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Faith United Church in Gibbon with the Rev. Cathy Cole officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday and one hour before services Friday, all at the church.

Gibbon resident, 89 KEARNEY - Marion B. Cosgrove, 89, of Gibbon died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Mount Carmel Keens Memorial Home in Kearney. There will be no services. The family will be present from 2-4 p.m. Friday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. She was born July 29, 1923, in Western Township near Fergus Falls, Minn., to Roy and Violette Weaver. On May 15, 1941, she married Michael "Jim" Cosgrove. He died in November 1977. Survivors include her daughter, Janet Slack and her husband, Lynn, of Gibbon; son, Michael Cosgrove of Omaha; grandson, Chip Slack of Neosho, Mo., and Thomas Slack of Greenland, Ark.; sisters, Lou Etta and her husband, Jack Savoy, and Jeanette and her husband, Fred Kroog; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She received her education in and around Fergus Fall. She worked at Gambles in Fergus Falls, Sears in Kearney and Fayetteville, Ark., and Ace Hardware in Grand Island before opening her own hardware store in Rogers, Ark. She ran the store until her retirement. After "retirement," she launched into her most loved project, the making of custom teddy bears. Her bears are in at least 43 states and several foreign countries. She made many friends with her bears. In 2008, she moved from Kearney to Hearthside Cottage in Gibbon. She never tired of baking and cooking and was very sad when she had to give up both. She also never got tired of watching baseball, particularly the Minnesota Twins.  Former Alma resident, 91 VISTA, Calif. - Grace Evelyn (Graf) Mennenga Ellrod, 91, of San Diego, formerly of Alma, Neb., died Tuesday Feb. 12, 2013, at Breeze Hill Care in Vista. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. May 31 at Alma United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Bendorf officiating. Private family inurnment will be at Alma Cemetery before the memorial services. There will be no visitation. The body was cremated. Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma is in charge of arrangements. She was born Oct. 6, 1921, on the family farm near Naponee, Neb., to Ernest and Ida Mae (Watson) Graf. On June 6, 1939, she married Russell Ellrod at Phillipsburg, Kan. He died Nov. 20, 1997. On May 25, 1999, she married Hy Mennenga in Laughlin, Nev. He died Jan. 1, 2003. Survivors include her daughters, Myrna Choitz of Marble Falls, Texas, Phyllis Buvel of Oceanside and Carolyn Larson of Scottsbluff, Neb.; sister, Ruby Lammers and her husband, Mel, of Sun City, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

 Franklin resident, 80 FRANKLIN - Robert Lamuel "Bob" Holmes, 80, of Franklin, formerly of Texarkana, Texas, died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Franklin. A celebration of life luncheon will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Black Powder restaurant in Franklin. Private family inurnment will be later in Texarkana. Memorial book signing will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m. He was born Jan. 1, 1933, in Texarkana to Bryant L. and Rose (Gerbino) Holmes. On Aug. 21, 1956, he married Judith Walker at Boston, Texas. She died in 1991. Survivors include his daughters, Sarahjayne Hanes of rural Phillipsburg, Kan., and Stacey Kilber of Rapid City, S.D.; brother, Cecil Holmes of Pensacola, Fla.; sister, Rose Marie Nelson of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

 Minden resident, 83 GRAND ISLAND - Anthony J. "Tony" Miller, 83, of Minden died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the Veterans Affairs Home in Grand Island. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in Minden with the Rev. Nicholas Baker officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery with military honors by the Minden American Legion, Heartwell Veterans of Foreign Wars and the U.S. Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday at Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. He was born May 11, 1930, in Holstein to Theodore and Katherine (Maystadt) Miller. On Oct. 17, 1953, he married Dorothy Munk in Heartwell. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Shellie Berry and her husband, Steve, of Kearney and Nancee Sinsel and her husband, Carl, and Jennifer Miller and her husband, Don, all of Minden; sons, Jeff Miller and his wife, Diane, of Minden, Matt Miller and his wife, Michelle, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mike Miller and his wife, Shannan, of Hutchinson, Kan.; grandchildren, Steven Berry and his wife, Lindsey, Lyndsey Berry, Megan Berry, Morgan Sinsel, Thomas Sinsel, Jarred Miller, MaShayla Miller, Katie Schmidt and her husband, Shane, Jaimie Miller and her fiancé, Jake Van Lent, Conner Miller, Katherine Miller, Hannah Miller, Gus Miller, Tyce Miller, Halle Miller, Brenden Miller and Isaac Miller; great-grandchildren, Cohen Schmidt, Camdon Schmidt, Tyler Berry and Alex Berry; brother, Joe Miller and his wife, Evelyn, of North Platte; sister, Helen Vieger of Dallas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Tony grew up in the Norman area and graduated from Minden High School in 1949. He worked in Davenport, Iowa, for a short time and in 1951 he entered the Air National Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He and Dorothy were married at Holy Family Catholic Church in Heartwell. They farmed in the Minden-Norman area. They moved into Minden and Tony later owned and operated Stadler Implement. He retired in 2000. Tony was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church and served on many committees and boards within the church. He was a fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus, member of American Legion Post 94 in Minden of which he was the past commander and past Kearney County commander and member of the Color Guard for many years, past member and an assistant fire chief with the Minden Volunteer Fire Department and had served on the Kearney County Veterans Service Board and the Minden Airport Authority. Tony had coached Legion baseball and had served as a Cub Scout leader. Tony was an avid Nebraska football fan and Minden Whippet fan. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, playing baseball, cooking and talking to his friends. Most of all he loved his family and followed his children and grandchildren in all their activities. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Brett and Crystina Sinsel and Thomas Miller; two brothers; and two sisters. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
