Verna Nuttelman Obituary

KEARNEY - Verna I. Nuttelman, 88, of Kearney, formerly of Amherst, died Friday, May 14, 2010, at St. Luke's Good Samaritan Village.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst with the Rev. Bert Mueller officiating. Burial will be at Stanley Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and one hour before services Monday at the church. The family will be present during visitation Sunday at the funeral home.

She was born July 25, 1921, on the family farm five miles north of Amherst to August and Ella (Steinhauser) Maul.

On Oct. 12, 1941, she married Gerald Nuttelman. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Gary Nuttelman and his wife, Kay, of Bertrand, Lonnie Nuttelman and his wife, Susie, of Quincy, Ill., and Clark Nuttelman and his wife, Kathy, of Amherst; granddaughters, Monica Snider and her husband, Scott, of Aurora and Sarah Buckendahl and her husband, Chad, of Las Vegas; grandsons, Nathan Nuttelman and his wife, Heather, of Quincy, Jason Nuttelman and his wife, Rochelle, of Chicago, Joshua Nuttelman of Frisco, Colo., and Daren Nuttelman and Brandon Nuttelman, both of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Victoria Snider and Rebecca Snider of Lincoln and Nolan and Zachary Nuttelman of Quincy; sister-in-law, Verna Nuttelman of Kearney; and nephews, Craig and Keith Nuttelman of Kearney and Randy Nuttelman of Lincoln.

She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church and then confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1935. She graduated from Amherst High School in 1938. She then attended and graduated from Beauty School in Grand Island in 1940.

Verna and her husband moved to the farm in 1946 and farmed south of Amherst. She moved into Prairie View Gardens in Kearney in 2008.

She was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for 25 years. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild at the church. She was a member of the Buffalo County Extension Group for 60-plus years.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, Amherst Volunteer Fire Department and AseraCare Hospice.
