Norman resident, 90

KEARNEY - Marvin Robert Deisley, 90, of Norman died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fredericksburg Lutheran Church south of Minden with the Revs. Baron and Nancy Cole officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery before the memorial service.

There will be no visitation. Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of arrangements.

He was born June 10, 1922, in Inavale to Samuel and Anna (Johnson) Deisley.

On Sept. 21, 1944, he married Eleanor Shannon.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years; daughter, Geraldine Danielson and her husband, Terry, of Gibbon; son, Bruce Deisley and his wife, Sherry, of Minden; daughter-in-law, Cindy Flavell of Ennis, Mont.; sister, Stella Andersen of Ord; sister-in-law, Maxine Jones and her husband, Jim, of Holdrege; brother-in-law, Wesley Shannon and his wife, Marcia, of Minden; grandchildren and spouses, Todd and Andrea Danielson, Lyndy and David Gurcheik, Scott and Amy Danielson, Chad Deisley, Mitch and Jill Deisley and Stephanie and Mike Myers; great-grandchildren, Leah and Rachel Danielson, Tyler Gurcheik, Morgan and Tanner Deisley, Zachary, Ian, Levi and Hans Danielson and Hailey Myers; and many nieces and nephews.

Marvin was raised by his aunt and uncle, Duke and Clara Sindergaard. Marvin graduated from Norman High School in 1941. After graduation, he worked at the Hastings Ammunition Depot. He later joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served aboard the USS Tweedy.

While Marvin served in the Navy, he and Eleanor lived in Miami and in Portland, Maine. In December 1945, Marvin was honorably discharged from the Navy. The couple then returned to the Minden/Norman area to raise a family. The couple have lived in their present home in Norman for more than 50 years.

Marvin was a faithful member of the Fredericksburg Church. He also belonged to numerous organizations, including the Lions Club, the American Legion, Mid-Nebraska Community Services board member, Bethany Home board member and the Goldenrod Good Sams Camper Club. While being a member of the camper club, Marvin and Eleanor participated in the Special Olympics torch run for several years.

Marvin enjoyed his family and hunting, fishing and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents; uncle and aunt, Duke and Clara; sisters, Clara and Nadine; brothers, Steve and Louis; sons, Robert and Gerald; and granddaughter, Paula Deisley.
