David Edward Maher Obituary
David Edward Maher

David Edward Maher, 55, a loving husband and father, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday, June 22, 2018. Dave was first diagnosed with Brain Cancer 11 years ago and it reoccurred this past year. Dave was grateful for the additional years to see his daughters grow up; daddy daughter dances, dance recitals, gymnastics, high school and college graduations.

Dave was someone who valued his friendships and he was always positive, strong and encouraging to others. His smile, thoughtfulness and kindness will always be with those who knew him well or just met him. Dave told others, he didn't think about his brain cancer every day and lived life!

Dave also rekindled a relationship with his now wife, Karen Anderson. They began dating as teenagers during High School and College and even farmed together. He proposed to Karen this past Christmas surrounded by family. She said yes, and they were married, March 16th. For 38 years, Dave worked for the Oswego Township in the Assessor's Office and served as Township Assessor from 1997-2018. Prior to being elected Township Assessor he served as a Township Trustee. He was a graduate of Oswego High School. During his teenage years he played golf competitively for Oswego High School and worked at the Fox Bend Golf Course. Dave is also remembered from his Appraisal Service business early in his career that also sponsored softball in the community.

Others might remember Dave from 'Anderson Farms Stand', that he ran during the summers for the past 33 years. He loved tractors and farming that was sparked by childhood visits to his grandparent's farm in Sandwich, Illinois where his mother grew up.

Dave was of the Lutheran faith, loved sports, fantasy football and a life-long fan of the Chicago White Sox. In addition to golf, he played baseball for Waubonsee Community College. After Waubonsee, he continued his education at Aurora University where he received his bachelor's degree.

Dave also enjoyed his yearly trips to Myrtle Beach, SC with friends and family. One of his favorite joys in life was seeing his daughter's faces filled with excitement to go to the beach each year.

Dave is survived by his wife, Karen Anderson; his two daughters, Hannah and Kathryn Maher; two brothers, Tom (Linda) Maher, Jim Maher, along with his fianc e Susan Ward; his sister, Diane (Dave) nee Maher Stallter; and many nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jeannine nee Olson Maher.

Gathering of Family and Friends was on Friday, June 29, 2018, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME WITH CREMATORY, 1801 S.
