Thom, Jane OConnell - Kenosha
Jane O'Connell Thom 1933 - 2015 Jane O'Connell Thom, 81, formerly of Kenosha, Wis., late of Sarasota, Fla., passed away peacefully on June 25, 2015, at Sunrise of Buckhead Assisted Living in Atlanta, Ga. Born in Glen Cove, NY, on July 23, 1933, she was the daughter of the late James and Eileen (O'Connor) O'Connell. She graduated in 1951 from St. Mary's in the Mountains (now the White Mountain School) in Bethlehem, NH; attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY from 1952-1955, which is where she met her husband; and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1956 while her husband served in the United States Air Force at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On Nov. 6, 1954, she married W. Scott Thom in Glen Cove, NY. Together they moved to Madison, Wisconsin while Scott attended law school, and they eventually settled in Kenosha in 1960. More recently, they wintered together in Sarasota, Fla., for several years eventually making it their permanent residence. Two months ago, she and her husband moved to Atlanta, Ga., to be closer to her son and daughter. She was a very good bridge player, avid reader, and could finish a New York Times crossword puzzle before most would even get started. She enjoyed playing tennis and golf with family and friends. She and her husband supported various youth and community organizations including the Kenosha Youth Foundation, Carthage College, CYC as well as the University of Wisconsin. Survivors include her husband, W. Scott Thom of Atlanta; two sons, Winfield Thom of Chicago and Patrick (Mayla) Thom of Atlanta; two daughters, Helen (Wayne) Cease of Atlanta and Betsy (Bill) Stoebig of Pleasant Prairie; a brother, Timothy O'Connell of New York; and ten grandchildren, Cicely Thom, Cassius Thom, Nicholas Thom, Virginia Thom, Patrick Thom, Kelly Donovan, Darby Cease, Emily Cease, Megan Stoebig and Scott Stoebig. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Edward O'Connell. A Celebration of Life in Jane's memory will be held on Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Kenosha Country Club, 500-13th Avenue, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested a gift to the UW Foundation, US Bank Lockbox 78807, Milwaukee, WI 53278-0807, or online at myuwconnect.org/give .
