Earl F. Orth
1921 - 2013
Earl F. Orth, 91, of Kenosha, died on Feb. 5, 2013, at Aurora Medical Center following a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was born on June 24, 1921, and was the son of the late Fred and Lena (Luebke) Orth. He attended Friedens Evangelical, McKinley Jr. High and Kenosha High Schools.
From Sept. 13, 1942, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 5, 1945, Earl honorably served in the Army
124th Infantry 33rd Division. He served in Hawaii, New Guinea, Philippine Islands and Japan. Earl proudly received the Purple Heart
, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star
, Four Overseas Service Bars, ASR Score 75 Lapel Button and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Medal.
On Sept. 12, 1959, at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage to Darlyne M. Fischer.
For 26 years, Earl was employed in various departments with American Motors Corporation, retiring on March 1, 1986. Previously, he was employed in the plating department at Simmons Company and in his younger years, Earl was a stage hand at various local theaters and Kenosha High School.
He was a member of U.A.W. Local 72 Retirees and the Old Timers Baseball Association. Earl was active with the Miss America Pageant and was the travelogue presentator at a local high school on Friday evenings. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and was an avid Packer and Chicago Cubs fan. Earl felt fortunate one season when he and his good friend followed the Cubs to every game.
Earl is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Darlyne Orth; his son, William (Shirley) Orth of Marathon Key, Fla.; his two daughters, Maureen (Gus) Cox and Rebecca (Scott) Martell, both of Kenosha; his seven grandchildren, Tim (April) and Todd Orth, Josh and Steven Fleming, Amanda Martell, and Casey and Cody Cox; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
