Helen T. Lapszys
A new chapter in the life of Helen Lapszys began on Friday afternoon, April 11, 2014, a chapter not of the flesh but of spirit.
Helen Theresa Lapszys was born on Oct. 5, 1914. She was the daughter of the late Casimir and Stephanie (Arasim) Lapszys. Helen was educated in Kenosha schools and was a graduate of Kenosha (Mary D. Bradford) High School and the Kenosha Business College (GTC). She faithful served the City of Kenosha as an administrative assistant until her retirement in the 1980s.
Helen assumed the role of caregiver for her elderly parents early on and was a driving family force. Her love of music and photography greatly influenced her growing nephews. She was firm but compassionate, adventurous yet loyal. On her mothers deathbed she promised to assist in bringing family members from Poland to the U.S. She kept that promise with family immigrating in the 1960s.
A devout Catholic, Helen was a lifetime member of the former St. Casimir Catholic Church, the St. Hedwigs Society and was an agent for the Polish Roman Catholic Union. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Surviving Helen are nephews. Thomas (Patricia) Getschman of Kenosha and Mark Thomas (Joyce) Onosko of Cape Coral, Fla. She is also survived by one great niece; three great nephews and six great-great nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Anthony and Sophie Lapszys, Stephanie Getschman, and Leocadia (Edward) Onosko; and her nephew, Timothy Onosko.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 1919 54th Street.
Interment will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery. A visitation for Helen will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
