1943 - 2013

Henry (sonny) J. Taft, Jr., 69, of Berry, Ala., died March 2, 2013, at the VA Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Visitation will begin at 12 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m., April 13, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kenosha. Food with family to follow at the Fireside restaurant. Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2013, at Southern WI Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.

Sonny was born on Nov. 26, 1943, to the late Henry J. Taft, Sr. and Ruth (Turkelson) Taft, in Waukegan, Ill. He moved to Kenosha at a very young age and resided there for most of his life, until moving to Berry, Ala., in 2000. He married Sarah (Atkinson) in 1998 in Berry.

Sonny was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1964 through 1966. He was a Vietnam War veteran and was active in the Kenosha Area Vietnam Vets, as well as VFW Post 1865 until he moved to Berry.

Preceding Sonny in death were his father, Henry J. Taft, Sr., his mother, Ruth Whittenmeier, a brother, Ric Taft, and a brother Gary Taft.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Sarah Taft of Berry, Ala.; a sister, Irene; a son, Chris Taft of Auburn, Penn.; a daughter, Trina (Fred) Flores, of Glendale, Ariz.; a son, Darin (Sara) Taft of Mukwonago, Wis.; and a daughter, Dana Taft of Kenosha. He also had nine grandchildren, Kenneth Taft, Trina Taft, Tori Dittrich, Jordan Taft, Isaac Curtin, Evan Dittrich, Phoenix Curtin, Mia Curtin, and Eli Curtin. He had one great-grandson, Lucas Taft.
