Kenneth O. Polzin Sr., 88, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Wisconsin Veterans
Home in Union Grove, Wis.
He was born on Aug. 4, 1924, in Kenosha, Wis. The son of the late Otto & Margaret (McVicar) Polzin. He was educated in the area schools. He served his country in the United States Army
during World War II
. He served his community as a Kenosha Police Officer
from the 1950s to the 1970s rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He related that the assignment he liked the best was when he was assigned to motorcycle duty. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles off duty as well and rode into his 80s. During his retirement, he had a 1200cc Kawa shipped to Europe where he retraced some of his movements during World War II. Ken also worked as a building inspector for various Kenosha County municipalities.
Ken was active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as troop master of Troop 19 for many years and active in the local Council and Order of the Arrow into his retirement. For decades Ken was an avid amateur ham radio operator and enjoyed CQing 2 and 6 meters as K9LHN. Ken enjoyed nature, whether on a motorcycle, hiking with the Boy Scouts or walking one of the many dogs he had over the years. He was also active in the area Baptist churches during his lifetime.
Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth( Jamie) Polzin Jr. and daughter, Jane Polzin. He will also be missed by his two grandchildren, Erin E. (David) Minh and Kenneth O. Polzin III and his great-grandson Ezekiel Minh. He was preceded in death by a daughter Beth and three sisters, Marjorie Lindemann, Dolores Puterka and Joyce Hoenie.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home 620 Legion Dr. Twin Lakes, WI. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in the town of Salem with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the Funeral Home.
