Kenneth B. Rusecki
1926 - 2014
Kenneth B. Rusecki, 87, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and friends on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at his home.
He was born on May 18, 1926, son of Adelle and Marcus Douglas (Step Father) and lived his childhood locally until May 22, 1944 when he entered the U.S. Navy
. He served on the USS Lubbock during World War II
and in the Iwo Jima and Okinawan campaigns. Honorably discharged on July 26th, 1947 he returned to Kenosha and completed his high school education at Mary D. Bradford on June 3, 1947.
On Aug. 20, 1949, he married Gretchen Lee Olson, they remained in Kenosha raising a family of four children. Gretchen preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 1990.
Ken was a dedicated worker his entire life, a Cooks Coffee Co. franchisee in the early years after the war, Produce Manager for Jewel grocery, and eventually retiring from the U.S. Postal Service in 1988, after 17 years of service.
Ken was a member of the American Postal Workers Union, a lifetime member of the VFW
Post 1865, and a member of the American Legion.
Throughout his life Ken had many interests; he was an avid sports fan, golfer, softball player (he particularly loved watching the Rotary games later in life), Bears Fan, Cubs Fan, bowler, Golden Gloves Boxer and Judge in his younger years. He served as a Boy Scoutmaster as well. And we cannot forget his love of jazz music and the occasional trip to the casino.
He is survived by; his children, Keith Rusecki, Jan Petri, Scott (Sarah) Rusecki, and Bruce Rusecki, all of Kenosha, his grandchildren; Shelly (John) Huber, Tracie Oatsvall, Jeff (Katie) Oatsvall, Amy Rusecki, and Scott Rusecki Jr, his great grandchildren; Nathan, Natalie, Laura, Raymond and Caden; his brother, Neal (Nancy) Rusecki of Kenosha,; and his sisters, Lois (Gerald) Mylnarek and Donna Schneider both of Kenosha.
A Celebration of Kens life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 12 (noon) at the Bruch Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow with Full Military Honors at Southern Wisconsin Veterans
Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Visitation will be held on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
