Barbara J. (Remus) Dissmore

1932 - 2018

Barbara J. (Remus) Dissmore, born February 4, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minn., and died May 8, 2018, in Kenosha. She was the daughter of Darryl and Genevieve (Cragin) Perkins.

Barbara graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis in 1950. She attended college at North Central Bible College in Minneapolis and Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo. Barb and Will Remus met in 1951, fell in love, and got married in 1954. Barbara and Will pastored for 42 years in 7 churches throughout Mich., Minn., S. D. and Wis. In 1996, Barbara and Will moved to Pleasant Prairie to serve as the Senior Adults Pastor at Journey Church, Kenosha Campus. Barb had a beautiful voice and sang duets with Will in church choirs. She had a beautiful smile and lit up a room when she walked in. She loved teaching little girls in Sunday School. Barb and Will also taught many marriage classes to couples in their churches. Barb enjoyed, lunches with friends, hosted many dinner parties at their home, crossword puzzles, was an avid reader, and loved romantic movies. In 1997 Barb's husband of 42 years preceded her in death.

In 2001 Barbara met and married David Dissmore. David and Barbara felt blessed to have found each other at this stage in their lives. David and Barbara enjoyed traveling together, going to church together, their life group friends and their children and grandchildren. David and Barbara were married for 13 years.

Survivors include a daughter Debbie (Tim) Stensgard; three sons, Dan (Alexia) Remus, David (Susan) Remus and Daylen (Tiffany) Remus; eight grandchildren, Heidi Luhr, Heather (JP) Square, Danny Remus, Kristin and Jordan Stensgard, Spencer and Riley Remus and Michael Caskey and five great grandchildren, Jordan and Brady Luhr, Kaden and Asher Square and Cavin Caskey.

A memorial service for Barbara will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018, at Journey Church (10700 – 75th Street). A visitation with the family will be held at the church from 5 p.m. until the time of service.
