Barbara Lee "Babs" Kruse

1936 - 2017

Barbara (Babs) Lee Kruse, 81, of Kenosha passed away on Dec. 7, 2017, at the Grand Prairie Rehabilitation under the care of Hospice Alliance House.

Babs was born on Aug. 8, 1936, in Kenosha. The daughter of the late Samuel and LaVerne (Pierson) Smiles, she attended the Patricia Stevens Modeling School in Milwaukee upon graduating from high school. She then worked in retail at Boston Store, Garbs, Lepps and Goldblatts.

She loved watching her grandchildren until her health declined and she was no longer able to live on her own. She suffered many health setbacks throughout her life, but her passion and independence remained an inspiration to those around her.

She continued her faith at Trinity Lutheran for as long as she was able to do so. The family wishes to thank the community there for their prayers with special thanks to Pastor Tom and Audrey for their visits throughout the years when she was no longer able to attend services in person.

Her passion for life was only outdone by her passion for shopping. Babs loved her trips to Kohls and the Boston Store. The last several years, she had great times shopping for hours with her daughter-in-law, Dee Dee. A lot of laughs were had and only one mannequin destroyed in their visits.

Babs loved her family and nothing made her smile more than spending time with them. Her face lit up as soon as they walked in the room.

She will be sadly missed by those she leaves behind, her son, Sam; daughter-in-law, Dee Dee; grandchildren, Concetta (Elliot) Rixie and Nicholas (Christi) Kruse and great-grandchildren, Larissa and Alexander Huissen and Cameron Kruse. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patti Wendricks; and great-grandson, Damon Huissen.

Funeral services will be private. The family invites you to celebrate Babs' life on Jan. 7, 2018, at the Italian American Club in Kenosha from 2 to 6 p.m. Come with your stories of times spent with Babs, times she may have inspired you with her strength and passion for life or the countless times you laughed with her until you cried.
