David C. Greidanus

1956 - 2013

David C. Greidanus, 57, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at the Midland Care House of Topeka after a long courageous battle with a painful disease.

He was born March 5, 1956, at Kenosha, Wis., the son of Jacob R. and Pauline A. Pettey Greidanus. David graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas Grade School and attended St. Joseph High School for two years where as a freshman he played Jr. Varsity football and baseball and as a sophomore he played Jr. Varsity football and Varsity baseball. His junior year he attended Tremper High School before he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Marine Corp from 1974 until 1977 when he transferred to the Marine Corp Reserves in northern Illinois. David graduated from Yokohma High School in Okinawa, Japan. While serving in the Marine Corp he was among the first fighting Marines to participate in the NATO War Games since WWI. David was honorably discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal.

David had worked on several ranches, St. Marys Academy and College, Rezac Land and Livestock in Onaga, the Alamo Group, Caterpillar Work Tools and most recently worked for PMSI Pipefitters at Jeffrey Energy Center until he became disabled. He was a member of the Assumption Chapel and had been a member of the St. Marys Volunteer Fire Department. David was a minor league pitcher as a young man and coached the Emmett 9-10 year old baseball team for several years. He loved fishing, gardening, hunting, camping and being outdoors.

Mr. Greidanus moved to the St. Marys community in 1986 where he met Debra Stock. They were married July 29, 1987, at Assumption Chapel. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his mother, Pauline Greidanus; two sons, Benjamin and Jacob J. Greidanus; a daughter, Veronica Paidosh; five brothers, Tom, Michael, Vincent, Paul (Karen) and Sam Greidanus; two sisters, Carol (Rich) Weldin and Karen (Tim) Simo; a grandson Joshua Paidosh.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob R. Greidanus.

A Requiem Mass was held on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Assumption Chapel in St. Marys. Interment was in Our Lady Of Peace Cemetery, St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be made to the David C. Greidanus Memorial Fund and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, Kansas 66536.

The family would like to thank the Medical staff at Stormont Vail and St. Francis Hospitals in Topeka, Kansas, along with the staff at the Midland Care House. They would also like to thank the Eucharistic Adoration Society at St. Josephs Nursing Home and at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church both in Kenosha. Thank You to the Kenosha Bible Church and all that prayed for David. A big Thank You goes to Mr. Lou Aceto of SJ Crystal Men Clothing Shop and to Piper Funeral Home.
