Gaspare Chiappetta

1933 - 2014

Gaspare Chiappetta, 80, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus.

Born in Marano Marchesato, Province of Cosenza, Italy, on Nov. 8, 1933, he was the son of the late Luigi and Filomena (Muto) Chiappetta and was educated in Italian schools. In April 1962, he boarded the S.S. Constitution and sailed to the United States to finally settle in Kenosha to make a home for himself and his future bride.

He returned to Italy and married Carmelina Covello on Dec. 29, 1963, at the Basilica Madonna Della Catena Catholic Church in Laurignano, Cosenza, Italy, and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends.

While in Italy, he worked as a firefighter and mechanic. After arriving in America, he worked at LeBlanc, American Brass, and the Eaton Corporation where he retired from in 1981.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, taking walks, caring for his lawn and collecting baseball caps from his and his familys travels. He was always ready to play cards with family and friends, take a vacation, and looked forward to spending time with his eight grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Carmelina of Kenosha; his children, Sergio (Stacey) Chiappetta of Pleasant Prairie, Ida Chiappetta of Kenosha, Daniel (Linda) Chiappetta of Pleasant Prairie and Ivana (Sean) Riley of Kenosha; his eight grandchildren, Gabrielle, Nicholas, Gina, Vincent, Daniel, Alexandra, Andrea and Angelina; two sisters, Michelina Mazzei and Gelsomina Metallo, both of Kenosha; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law in Italy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Pasquale, Vincenzo and Giuseppe Chiappetta; and two sisters, Amelia Chiappetta and Ida Vulnero.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mariani for all the kind and considerate care he provided.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3, from the Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the Proko Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
