John H. Sutter
1928 - 2013
John H. Sutter, 84, of Zion, IL died on Monday June 24, 2013, at St. Catherines Hospital in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
He was born Nov. 2, 1928, in Bloomington, Ill., and has lived in Zion for the past 44 years. He retired at Great Lakes after serving his country for 20 years in the United States Navy. Later, he was employed at the Garland Building in downtown Chicago as chief Engineer for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Ann; children, Kim (Steven) Dreamer, Carolyn (John) Sutter, Jon Sutter, Monica Gudas, John (Amelia) Grega, and Laurie (Steve) Brown; eight grandchildren Lauren Sutter, Tiffany (Josh Castor) Steele, Brice and Graham Dreamer, Frank DeGrendel, Michael and Samantha Sepke, and Jon Sutter Jr.; siblings Jim (Jo) Sutter, and Judy (Gil) Sentimore; and sister-in-law, Marge Sutter.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth White; one son, Joe Sutter; son-in-law, John Gudas; sister Patricia OMalley; and brother Tom Sutter.
John had many joys in his life. He took pride in being a lifetime member of Winthrop Harbors V.F.W. Post 7448. He was a passionate Chicago Bulls and Bears fan, enjoyed listening to country music, and he loved riding his Harley. The only thing he loved more than his Harley was his family. For all those who knew John, they knew he was a strong, determined man with a caring heart. He will be remembered for his great stories, his sense of humor, and his unconditional love. He will truly be missed by everyone that knew him.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013, from 9 until 11 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. A burial with military honors will be at Ft. Sheridan Cemetery. Memorial donations to Winthrop Harbor V.F.W. Post 7448 have been suggested in lieu of flowers. Please sign the online guest book at www.congdonfuneralhome.com
