1918 - 2013
Karen M. Ernst, 95, passed away at Kindred Heart in Elkhorn, on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013.
Born in Stevens Point on April 4, 1918, she was the daughter of Austin D. and Mary E. (nee Handt) Steffen. She spent her early life in Chicago where she graduated from Immaculata High School and Immaculata College.
On Oct. 2, 1937, in Chicago, she was united in marriage to Joseph B. Kiesler Jr. and they lived their married life in Paris Township. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1971. On Oct. 5, 1974, she was united in marriage to Lawrence E. Ernst and they lived their married life in Bristol. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 2007.
Karen was a former member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Paris Township. She enjoyed decorating and cooking, loved to travel and enjoyed snowmobiling.
She is survived by her children, Karla Kiesler of Homosassa, Fla., Joseph (Janice) Kiesler III of Racine, Steffen (Penny) Kiesler of Racine, James (Elvira) Kiesler of Hudson, Thomas (Joan) Kiesler of Winter, Gregory (Karen) Kiesler of Trevor, Mary (John) Lois of Burlington and Kristin (Mick) Schmidt of Springbrook; step-sons; Lawrence (Linda) Ernst of Oregon and Tim Ernst of Florida; 34 grandchildren and 60 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, a brother, Austin D. Steffen Jr.; son, Robert Kiesler, grandsons, Joseph B. Kiesler IV, Jacob Kiesler and James Kiesler, Jr.
For memorials, the family would ask that you have a Mass said in Karens name at the church of your choice.
The family would like to thank Mary Hobbs, the staff at Kindred Hearts and Aurora Memorial Hospital, 2nd floor staff, Dr. Jolanta Twardy and Dr. Peter Massert, PA Jamie Deans and Vitas Hospice.
A Private Inurnment will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
