Norman R. Brockway

1933 - 2013

Norman R. Brockway, 79, of Kenosha passed away on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Aurora Hospital.

Norman was born on Feb. 18, 1933, in Decatur, Ill., to Fred and Nellie Brockway. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from July 10, 1950, until Dec. 10, 1953, during the Korean Conflict. Norman served his country with honor and was awarded the National Service and Good Conduct Medals. He married Patricia Ann Kollman on July 26, 1952, at the First Congregational Church in Kenosha. He worked for Piggly Wiggly and Jewel grocery stores for 15 years and 5 years at Parkside Hardware. He also worked at the Old Ace Hardware as the Toy Department Manager and was known as "Norm the Toy Man". Norman enjoyed working in the garden especially with his flowers, he enjoyed playing cribbage every Saturday and he was an avid Packer and Brewers fan. His greatest joy was the time he spent with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by, his wife, Patricia; his daughter, Deborah Onstad his parents; his brother, Donald Brockway and three sisters, Lois Jones and Beverly and Barbara Brockway.

Norman is survived by, his daughter, Barbara (Thomas) Brown of Oak Creek; his son, Edwin Brockway of Pleasant Prairie; his son-in-law, Robert Onstad of Burlington; three granddaughters, Mandy (Mark) Sekey, Ashley Onstad and Samantha Onstad all of Burlington; three sisters, Phyllis Eckhart of Moweaqua, Ill., Nancy Williby of Decatur, Ill., and Alberta Courtney of Richland, Miss.; a special nephew, Danny Brockway as well as many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Norman will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home with Chaplain John Hughes officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the chapel at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be greatly appreciated.

Normans family would like to express the sincerest gratitude to Dr. Susan Davids and the staff at the V.A. Hospital in Milwaukee. The Medix ambulance and Somers Rescue Squad. And also to Robin, Katrina and Chaplain John Hughes from Vitas Hospice.
