Richard W. Fischer

1919 - 2013

Richard W. Fischer, 94, of Kenosha, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Brookside Care Center.

Richard was born in Rhinelander, Wis., on March 28, 1919, to Richard and Theresa Gohlke Fischer. He was educated in Rhinelander schools and served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1944 as a technical sergeant.

Mr. Fischer founded the R. W. Fischer trucking and excavating company in 1945 and added the R. W. Fischer Sand and Gravel Company to his operations in 1962. Mr. Fischer has been a member of St. James Catholic Church since 1945. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, the Kenosha and Waukegan Elks Clubs and belonged to the Kenosha Country Club.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jean Uhen Fischer, sisters Helen Sanders, Ginny Stanfill, Rosemary Gilliland, and Darlyne Orth and brothers Clarence Fischer and Harry Fischer

Mr. Fischer is survived by two daughters, Lynn Lincoln-Hill of Little Rock, Ark., and Sally Kolar of Alta Loma, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, from the Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at Proko Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph High School or Kenosha Symphony Orchestra.
