Rose Margaret Blanchard

1913 - 2013

Rose Margaret Blanchard, 99, of Pleasant Prairie passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, with her loving family by her side. Rose was born on May 28, 1913, in Kenosha to Christopher and Margaret (Friedrich) Metten. She attended St. George School and received a degree in business administration from Kenosha Vocational School. Rose married Clarence Blanchard Sr. on Nov. 28, 1932, in Waukegan, Ill., and they shared 58 years together until Clarences passing on March 14, 1991. She worked for Coopers, Simmons and finally American Motors until her retirement in 1971. Rose and Clarence retired to Birchwood, WI and they returned to Kenosha in 1988. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and worked in the food pantry at the church. She also worked until the age of 90 as a bookkeeper with Senior Community Services. Rose enjoyed crossword puzzles, solitaire, computer games, reading and crocheting, but her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two granddaughters, Laura Leann and Renee Rose; two brothers, Charles and William Metten; and two sisters, Ruth Metten in infancy and Blanch Steinhoff.

Rose is survived by her son, Clarence (Shirley) Blanchard Jr. of Pleasant Prairie; two daughters, Barbara (John) Holverson of Pleasant Prairie and Lois Blanchard of Kenosha; seven grandchildren, Susan Clairmont, Jean Nixon, Charles Baxter, David and Mylene Blanchard and Alan and Lee Holverson; 13 great grandchildren, Heather and Michael Stark, Justin Glover, Bailey Ferguson, Cole Nixon, Kassie Baxter, Kyle, Caroline, Jacob, Grafton and Miranda Holverson and Jason and Allie Blanchard; four great great grandchildren, Michael and Betty Stark, Haile Kavalaskaus and Gage Snell; her brother, Clarence Metten; her sister, Viola Home as well as nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral services for Rose will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home. Interment will be private in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. A visitation will held on Monday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice Alliance would be greatly appreciated.
