Edward J. Yuenkel

1923 - 2014

Edward J. Yuenkel, 91, of Kenosha, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at his residence.

Born in Kenosha on Jan. 27, 1923, he was the son of the late Julius and Ottilia (Gruhn) Yuenkel. He was a lifelong resident of Kenosha and was educated in local schools.

He was in the United States Army during World War II, serving from January of 1943 until December of 1945. He received the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern theater ribbon with three bronze battle stars, three overseas service bars and the Good Conduct Medal. On July 6, 1946, he married his childhood sweetheart, Jane Anna Flammang, in Kenosha. She preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2008.

Edward was employed as a mechanic and welder with American Motors Corporation until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of UAW Local 72 and the Ke-Nash-A Club. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and deer hunting. He loved spending his summers up north at the cottage working, fishing and enjoying his family, and working some more.

Surviving are his seven children, Jim (Patti Zahn) Yuenkel, Barbara Niles, Bill (Charlotte) Yuenkel, Nancy Yuenkel, Tom (Gladys) Yuenkel, John (Eleanor) Yuenkel, and Richard (Mary) Yuenkel; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Olga Julius.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, at Proko Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Green Ridge Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 20, at Proko Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
