Mary June Ward

1917 - 2014

Mary June Ward, 96, of Kenosha, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the Harmony of Kenosha.

June was born on Nov. 25, 1917, in Richland Center to Fred and Grace (Schlouch) Daly. Her family moved to Beloit when she was an infant. She graduated from Beloit High School and received her Bachelors degree in education from U.W. Whitewater. June married James Ward on Nov. 10, 1944, and the couple was married for almost 60 years until his passing on Dec. 20, 2000. She taught school for over 50 years, starting her career teaching for six years in Beloit and Columbia, S.C. She moved to Kenosha in 1946 where she taught the first grade for 20 years at Berryville and 20 years at Bose Elementary. June also taught at the Orthopedic School in Kenosha for one year, the Old Vocational School, which is now Gateway Technical, for five years, and English for the new Americans & Citizenship. She retired at 83 years old and received the Keno sha Unified Distinguished Service Award. June also received the perfect attendance award four years in a row from 1988 to 1991, and since her retirement she has taken 15 cruises to various places. She enjoyed tap dancing, traveling and especially reading childrens literature.

She was also preceded in death by, her parents.

June is survived by, her daughter, Marilyn Ward.

In accordance with Junes wishes, private services were held. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Carthage College Center for Childrens Literature would be greatly appreciated.
