Berta Hernandez

1925 - 2014

Berta Hernandez, 88, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Friday, April 4, 2014, at her residence.

She was born on April 8, 1925, to the late Felipe and Polonia (Garsa) Cortina in Knippa, Texas.

On July 7, 1940, she married Bruno Hernandez in Comal County, Texas. He preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1991.

Berta was a member of Prayer House Assembly of God Church.

Berta enjoyed gardening with her husband, cooking, crafts, knitting and crocheting. She loved going to church, visiting with friends and spending time with her grandchildren.

Berta is survived by her children John Hernandez of Kenosha, Aristeo Ed Hernandez of Scotts City, Mo., Stella Tia Hernandez of Kenosha and Julia (Steve) Cradeock of Jackson, Mo.; her sisters, Julia Alderete and Tina Aguirre both of San Antonio, Tex., and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her son, Sixto and her brothers, Julio Garcia, Ciprano Hernandez and Felipe Garcia.

Funeral Services for Berta will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at 11 a.m. at Prayer House Assembly of God Church (1525 24th Ave.). Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials would be appreciated to the family.
