Doloris Eleanor Whiteside
1919 - 2014
Doloris Eleanor Whiteside, 95, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
Born in Kenosha on March 13, 1919, she was the daughter of Joseph H. and Mary Maymee (Earl) Greenwald.
On Sept. 1, 1941, Father Arthur Kelly united Doloris and Walter Davis Whiteside in marriage at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, Kenosha. Their Best Man was Paul Whiteside and their Maid of Honor was Doloris sister, Mary Louise Greenwald. They were married 53 years until Walters death in August, 1994.
Before her marriage, Doloris worked in retail. Her final employment was with Charles Stevens Womens Shop at Lakehurst Mall in Waukegan, Ill. Doloris enjoyed the time she spent working various elections at the Voter Polls and for the Census Bureau where she liked the areas she traveled to.
She was a dedicated member of St. Marys Catholic Church and St. Marys Altar Society. Doloris was always willing to lend a helping hand. Besides helping with the many church functions, she would drive the Dominican Sisters up to their main convent in Racine.
Doloris was very active and loving. She enjoyed sewing. She loved dancing and had told us how she and my father had won some dance competitions. They were always such fun to watch! Mom loved making pies and cakes and always had Sunday supper for us all, a houseful! She loved her family and was always there with a helping hand. We will all miss her very much.
Doloris is survived by her daughter, Sheila K. (Rudy) Wiesztort; her six grandchildren, Bridey Fastabend, Shaun Whiteside, Briana Wiesztort, Dr. Walter (Mollie) Wiesztort, Danielle (Bob) Schneider and Nathaniel (Teresa) Wiesztort; twelve great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Greenwald in 1967; her mother, Mary Greenwald in 1966; her two sons, Daniel B. Whiteside in 1972 and Mark J. Whiteside in 1999; her daughter-in-law, Helen A. Whiteside in 1987; her two brothers, Joseph Greenwald in 1976 and Daniel A. Greenwald in 2013; and her two sisters, Mary Louise Deom in 1996 and Gloria G. Schmitz in 2012.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church, 7400 39th Avenue. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery. A visitation for Doloris will be held at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to Hospice Alliance, Inc., 10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd., Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158, would be appreciated.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Casa del Mare; for the special care they gave Doloris.
