Born in Kenosha on Dec. 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Tobia and Angeline (Stella) Cerqua. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was educated in local schools and enjoyed the distinction of being included in both the 1950 and 1951 graduating classes of Mary D. Bradford High School.

On Jan. 7, 1978, he married Ferne Paul at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Tom worked from a young age and took pride in the fact that he often held two jobs at the same time. He was employed with the City of Kenosha Police Department and retired as a Lieutenant in 1999 after 38 years of service. After retiring from the police force, he worked at the Dairyland Greyhound Park until it closed, and he also worked for a number of years as a bailiff with the Kenosha County Courthouse until he left in 2012 due to health problems. He was a member of the Italian-American Club, where he served as a board member for many years, and was a current member of the board of the Police and Fire Credit Union.

Survivors include his wife, Ferne Cerqua of Kenosha; two sons, Tobia Toby Cerqua of Milwaukee; and Thomas Tommy Cerqua of Madison; a sister-in-law, June Cerqua of Brookfield; his mother-in-law, Florence Paul Wesselius of Kenosha; and many other relatives and close friends.
