Marvin W. Batt
1919 - 2013
Marvin W. Batt, 93, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Grande Prairie Health & Rehab.
He was born on Aug. 30, 1919, to the late John and Martha (Graefe) Batt in Sheboygan. He had a memorable childhood filled with wonderful memories of his hometown. He was educated in the schools of Sheboygan. He received his bachelor and master degrees from Marquette University.
Marvin married Alice Perry on May 20, 1950, in Milwaukee at the Marquette University Chapel. He was a devoted husband. Alice preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 1961.
Marvin entered the U.S. Army/Air Corp in 1942. He was a S/Sgt. in the 8th Army Air Force Division and the 306th Bomb Group, serving in England. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was fortunate to participate in the Honor Flight in 2010.
Marvin was a teacher at McKinley Jr. High for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He taught social studies, Spanish and English. He was known for his perfect cartwheels and numerous quips and quotes.
Marvin loved animals, birds, history, camping trips, traveling to National Parks with his son Brad and swimming. He was an avid sports fan of Marquette and the Packers. He was proud of his accomplishment of walking across the Golden Gate Bridge. Marvin loved to have people express themselves. He was very attached to the students and faculty of McKinley Jr. High where he taught for 25 years.
Marvin is survived by his daughter, Susan (Nick) Weber of Sun Prairie; his sons, Brian (Roxie) Batt of Grand Marsh, Wis., and Bradley Batt of Pleasant Prairie; his grandchildren, Brian Batt Jr., Steve and Monica Weber; and his siblings, Janet (Gehrt) VanTill of West Allis, Harold Batt of Milwaukee and Audrey (Neil) Murray of Greenfield.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Lester; sister, Ruth Busby and his parents, John and Martha.
Funeral services for Marvin will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bruch Funeral Home. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 9:30 am until the time of service. Memorials would be appreciated to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
