In 1947 he arrived to America from Poland. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.

On Aug. 31, 1952, he married Renee Malinowski at Five Holy Martyrs Church in Chicago, Ill. They had 60 wonderful years together and five children, Joyce Gielas, Jan (Cary) Ferraro, Ted Gielas, Mike A. He is survived by a sister, Stella Stys of Chandler, Ariz.; two nieces, Diane Stys of Chandler, Ariz., and Nancy Gielas of Thunder Bay, Canada; and two nephews, Casey Stys of Chandler, Ariz., and Michael A. Gielas of Gimli Manitoba, Canada.

He was a designer for Guardian Container of Elkhorn, Wis., and retired in 1996.

He enjoyed gardening, nature, being a craftsman, and cheering on his Packers and Hawks. But most of all, he loved spending quality time with his family at his cabin in the north woods.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 8, at St. Mary Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
