Gilbert G. Fechner

1926 - 2015

Gilbert "Gil" Gerald Fechner, 88, of Sturtevant, passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2015, at his residence with his family by his side. Gil was born in Kenosha, Wis., on May 25, 1926, the son of the late Gilbert and Mabel Fechner. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. Gil was united in marriage to Doris Dobbins on June 17, 1995. He was employed at various manufacturing companies throughout Racine and Kenosha, retiring from J.I. Case as an Expediter in 1988.

Gil was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute. For 42 years, he faithfully served in the ministries of Calvary Baptist Church in Sturtevant. He was an avid gardener and followed in his father's footsteps as a devoted Chicago Cubs fan.

Gil is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Timothy (Diane) Fechner, Randy (Marge) Fechner, Romayne Fechner, Marilyn (Steve) Jeske and Sally (Glen) Hipper. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; sisters, LaVerne Johnson, Betty Hall, Alice Kelly and brother, Donald (Wanda) Fechner. Gil is further survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Arnoldini and two wives, Dorothy Fechner and Kay Fechner.

Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 9122 Durand Ave. Sturtevant, on Friday, March 6, 2015, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ken Howe officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.. and will continue on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park in Kenosha following services.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Gil in a special way may direct memorials to Child Evangelism Fellowship or Ridgewood Chapel Fund.
