John COOPER Obituary

COOPER John M., 52, surrounded by his wife, daughter, son, son-in-law, sister and mother, passed away Sep 6, 2016 at Baptist Hospital Lexington after suffering a stroke. John was born in Ft Worth, TX, on Jan 20, 1964 to his loving parents, Dr. J. Dan and Marilyn Cooper. He attended the University of Oklahoma, and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor's degree in business administration. John thrived during his 28 years in management; however, he found true fulfillment caring for his family and later, his ailing father. John believed it a gift from God, and he treasured each moment. He was an avid golfer, a dedicated Dallas Cowboys, OU, and Kentucky Wildcats fan, and a KSR fanatic! John was a strong believer and faithful follower of Jesus which was demonstrated by his ability to be quick to forgive, generous with all, and an unapologetic protector of those he held dear. John was preceded in death by his father, Dr. J. Dan Cooper and brother-in-law, Chad Haynes. John is survived by his wife of 26 years, Kristen Cooper, who finds comfort in the knowledge she was unconditionally and deeply loved; daughter, Stefanie (Brandon) Bugosh and son, Andrew Cooper, who find peace in knowing their father's wise heart is always with them; mother, Marilyn Cooper; sister, Dana Cooper; mother-in-law, Patricia Stucke, sisters-in-law Joani (Scott) Sullivan, Elizabeth Haynes, Ellen (Jeff) Logan; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who fondly remember his strong character, keen sense of humor and effortless way of putting others at ease. Visitation is 10:30am-12pm Sat, Sep 10, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church, Lexington. A memorial service officiated by Dr. Robert Baker will follow at 12pm Sat, Sep 10, 2016, Calvary Baptist Church. Private burial will take place on Mon at the Lexington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks contributions be made to Camp Horsin' Around (www.camphorsinaround.org), Calvary Baptist Church (www.calvarybaptistchurch.com) or your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Milward Funeral Home. www.milwardfuneral.com. He will be sorely missed.

John and I worked together at American Water. We all were a pretty close team. John was a great cheerleader and team mate and always had a bowl of treats at his desk to share.
I am extremely sorry to hear the news of his passing.
May good and loving memories comfort your family. Prayers for strength through this very difficult time.

I worked with John at Target. He was always smiling and telling jokes. He made you feel better, just being around him.
Prayers be with his family. God will see you through this.

He was the best brother in law I could ever have asked for. I will miss his humor, his wit and his love. I pray for comfort and peace for Kristen, Stefanie, Brandon, Drew, Marilyn and Dana.

John was one of the good ones. He hired me at Target even though I replied to why did I want to work for Target with if I have to take crap, I want to take it locally. (I had been commuting 2 hours a day to and from previous employment ) He had such a wonderful sense of humor. I was helped by his kindness through a difficult time at Target with a bicep tendon rupture. He will always hold a special place in my heart. He is sorely missed.
