Norma Mahan Obituary

MAHAN Norma 'Peggie' Hatfield Reed died September 13, 2012 at the age of 88 in Lexington, Kentucky. Born in Detroit, Michigan on October 14, 1923 to Beulah Grey Hazlett and Robert Yates Hatfield. The youngest of four children, Peggie spent most of her youth growing up in Lincoln Co., Kentucky. Peggie was known for her creativity and artistic talent, often helping with church, school, and many activities. Later in life she used much of her talents working at 'A Touch of Kentucky' in downtown Lexington and 'Artique' at Lexington Green. She enjoyed the people she worked with very much and found great friendships there. Raising her children at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and later a member of Christ Church Cathedral, she had many Christian family members that she loved dearly. As well as being a charter member of the Daughters of the King, she participated in the Lay Eucharistic Ministry, Gather and Grow, and Faith Alive. Peggie enjoyed researching her genealogy and being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Peggie was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Daugherty White Mahan, Jr. and is survived by her four children, Dixie Lee Reed Hardin of Lexington, KY, D. W. 'Doug' Mahan, III (Erika) of Saarbrucken, Germany, Michael Robert Mahan (Susan) of Lexington, KY, and Rev. Carl Patrick 'Pat' Mahan (Kathy) of Huntsville, AL; six grandchildren, Geoffrey Lee Ireland of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Michelle Lynn Ireland Fleck of Lexington, KY, Daniel White Mahan of Jackson, MS, Andrew Stephen Mahan of Huntsville, AL, Anna Caroline Mahan of Huntsville, AL, Cameron Michael Mahan of Lexington, KY; four great-grandchildren, Jerry Fleck, Jr. of Buena Vista, CO, Sommer Nicole Ireland, Taylor Brooke Ireland, and Blake Nicholas Ireland of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one great, great grandchild, Lillie Ann Nichole Fleck. A celebration of Peggie's life starting at 1pm and a memorial service at 2:30pm Monday, October 8, 2012, will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, Lexington, KY. Her burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Expressions of Thanksgiving for Peggie may be made to the Cathedral Domain, and Christ Church Cathedral. www.milwardfuneral.com

We at Artique were blessed to have Peggy in our lives. She was a wonderful, strong, creative, high spirited, beautiful person. We miss her greatly. She is still alive in our hearts and memories.
