SUMMERS Donald E., 81, of Lexington, passed away Tuesday November 6, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was a 1948 graduate of St. Xavier High School in Louisville and a board member for the Christian Appalachian Project. Don was a lifelong fisherman, a founding member of the Central Kentucky Bass Club and in 1974 he caught that years state record smallmouth bass. He loved the outdoors, traveling with his wife, arrowhead hunting and spending time on the Kentucky River, the Gulf of Mexico or any other body of water. An entrepreneur, in 1986 he walked away from a successful career with United Technologies and started a successful manufacturer's representative firm with his friend, Bill Matthews. He retired in 2001. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sara Summers, 2 daughters, Cynthia and Kathleen; three sons Mark (Lucy), Greg, Chip (Amy Thompson); six grandchildren, Jessie Thomas (Josh), Matthew Summers, Russ Koenig, Emily Koenig Afzal (Scott), Thompson Summers and Holden Summers; and one great grandchild Evelyn Thomas; a sister Janet Campisano (Frank). Predeceased by his parents Prentice and Clara Summers and his brother Robert (Sandy). There will be a memorial service at the Newman Center 320 Rose Lane on Monday November 12 at noon followed by a reception. Visitation will be from 10am-12pm Monday November 12 at the Newman Center. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or Christian Appalachian Project. The family wishes to thank Richmond Place and Hospice for their compassion and care in this difficult time.

To the Summers family, I was so sorry to hear about Don passing. Your family was such a big part of our family and the ole neighborhood. You are in my prayers and I always loved seeing you at Pax Christi. Did not know he was ill. Love to you and your family.
