Vicini, Rena - Lexington  
VICINI Rena Louise, 61, former Athletics Director for Media Relations at the University of Kentucky, died at her home in Lake Havasu City, AZ on April 21, 2015. The daughter of the late John L. and Ruth A. (Wesley) Vicini, Rena was the sixth of their 12 children, and was raised in Lynch in Harlan County. She majored in journalism at UK and graduated in 1977. Her career as a journalist began as a reporter for The Harlan Daily Enterprise and then as a sportswriter at both the Louisville Courier-Journal and the Lexington Herald-Leader where she also became a columnist. Vicini joined UK's staff in 1980 as assistant sports information director. In 1993, UK promoted her to be head of media for the athletics department. When she retired from the university in 2004, Vicini was associate athletics director for publications. A childhood dream was realized when her book Fatal Seduction was published. Rena will be deeply missed by her mother Ruth of Lexington, three sisters, Linda (Richard) Whitworth of Louisville, Virginia "Ginny" Vicini and Mary Beth Hubbard of Lexington, eight brothers, John (Wilma) of Cuba, IL, Tom of Benham, James (Kathleen) of Cumberland, Kenny (Michele) of Lexington, Frank of Richmond, Joe of Franklin, TN, Steven (Sheila) of Coldiron, David (Cheryl) of Lexington, dozens of nieces and nephews, numerous Wesley and Vicini cousins, and countless friends she considered her extended family. A memorial gathering will be held at Milward Celebration Center, 1509 Trent Blvd, from 5-9pm on Sun May 3 and a funeral mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 1730 Summerhill Dr, on Monday May 4 at 10:30am. Rev. Danny Schwendemann will officiate, and the eulogy will be given by the Rev. Mr. Marco M. Rajkovich, a childhood family friend and schoolmate. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Catholic Action Center, PO Box 324, Lexington KY 40588.
