Connie Michelle Blount

BLOUNT Connie Michelle, was born April 27, 1989, in Austin, TX. She was the daughter of Jack and Cynthia Blount. Connie died as the victim of a hit-and-run accident in Lexington, KY, on April 13, 2008. She was 18. Connie was finishing her freshman year at the University of Kentucky as a student in Equestrian Science. Her death occurred as she was crossing the street at a major intersection near her campus residence. Connie's father, Jack, as a corporate executive moved the family to Park City when Connie was a preschooler. She became an avid skier at age three. The family moved from Park City and then returned a second time, and Park City became her home. Connie was a graduate of Park City High School in May 2007. Connie began her journey to develop equestrian expertise in Denver, CO, earning more than 150 ribbons and awards. She took her two horses, Luke and Sam, with her to the University of Kentucky where she was a member of the University Equestrian Team. Connie was a vivacious young lady who enjoyed life. On her Facebook wall she placed her philosophy of sharing happiness, "Smile. It's the simplest way to share joy." It was clearly evident how well she practiced her philosophy. Comments reported on her Facebook expressing tributes of her joy and spirit included: "She was so full of life and would do anything for anybody;" "She was so in tune with other people's feelings, and she would sacrifice her sleep or time to help out a friend." A memorial service requested by her fellow students on campus was attended by more that 400 students, faculty, and friends with standing room only at the Baptist Student Center on campus, this past Monday night. She is survived by her parents, an older brother, Thor of Carrollton, GA; an older sister, Kelley Ann Krohnert and her husband, Paul of Austell, GA. Kelley gave birth to their first child the day of Connie's untimely death. She is also survived by her four grandparents, aunts and uncles, and many cousins. Connie's faith affiliation was in the Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held on Fri, April 18, 10am at the Park City Community Church, 4501 North Hwy 224 (behind Park City Nursery), Park City. A visitation for friends and family will be Thu, April 17 from 6:30-8:30pm also at the Park City Community Church. A memorial fund in Connie's memory is being established at the University of Kentucky. Donations may be made to the "University of Kentucky Connie Michelle Blount Memorial Fund" for the Advancement of Equestrian Sciences. For more information go to www.blount.org
