
LAWRENCEBURG - Garvis Nowlin Birdwhistell, 88, of Lawrenceburg, died Friday, January 18, 2013 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Gilbert Nolan and Mamie Pearl Hawkins Birdwhistell. He was a member of Sand Spring Baptist Church, and served in the
Army during
WWII. He retired from Lawrenceburg Police Department, Kentucky Department of Transportation, and was an Auto Mechanic. He was a member of Anderson Lodge #90 and was their oldest member since 1953, he was also a Kentucky Colonel. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Wash Birdwhistell, Lawrenceburg; son, Garvis Birdwhistell Jr., Frankfort; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Birdwhistell, Trevor Birdwhistell, Krystal Birdwhistell, and Melissa Bush; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ilene Peyton and a granddaughter, Tonja Trost. Funeral services 1pm Tuesday at Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be 5-8pm Monday with a Masonic service at 7pm.
