Virginia Atkins

ATKINS Virginia Marie, loving wife of Norman Atkins, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the age of 88. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth Payne and Estella Mae Anderson Payne. Virginia is survived by her husband of 65 years Norman, sons Mark Atkins and his wife Susan, Barry and his wife Barbara. Virginia and Norman have 4 grandchildren Ellora and Myles Atkins, Robin (Atkins) Lavoie, her husband Todd and Marcie (Atkins) Kestel, her husband Chad. Virginia is also survived by great grandchildren Dominic and Ashley Lavoie, Abby and Joseph Kestel. Virginia was a dedicated homemaker to her entire extended family throughout her life. Virginia and Norman have belonged to South Elkhorn Christian Church since 1968 and have contributed much to the spiritual community there. She was a member of the Priscilla and Mary Circles. She served as the Memorial Chairwoman for 25 years, as well as being involved in many projects and special events over the years. Virginia was a member of the Salvation Army in whose service she spent countless hours over the last 45 years volunteering in nursing homes and hospitals throughout central Kentucky. Virginia was also a member of the Suburban Women's Club for many years where she continued her public service. Pallbearers will be Myles Atkins, Matt Gibbs, Bill Howard, Robin Lavoie, Jack McAllister and Fred Muschong. Visitation will be from 5-8pm Monday, Feb 25, 2013 at the Milward-Southland, Lexington, KY where funeral services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, Feb 26, with burial in Lexington Cemetery.
