“Uncle Buddy” is, of course, still with me. His spirit was transmitted so effectively to so many. I just finished listening to one of his sermons – a cassette I’m transferring to digital media. It was recorded on August 16, 1993, and was titled, “Strength in Face of Weakness.” It is one of my favorites. Uncle Buddy was and is my hero.

Bud understood the power of laughter.
He knew that while you were laughing, all your woes would go away, even if just for a moment.
Sometimes a moment is all we can hope for.
Bud was a great man.

As time goes on it is the memories that gives us smiles, brings us comfort, and helps heal our broken hearts. My Uncle Buddy was always bigger than life. When I was little he would take me and my cousins, Michelle, Debbie, and Denise to the Franklin Movie Theater, treat us to popcorn and coke as we watched Snow White together. I knew he was something pretty special because it was important to him to brighten the life of a child. He gave me smiles. I remember being at 1621 Delmar and Grandpa Brooks was crying because he knew that was the last time he would see his son as he left for Vietnam. On that day as Uncle Buddy faced his own personal struggles, he remained a pillar of strength for he brought comfort to each of us. Powerful memories for a child of 6 or 7; but children know when they are standing in the presence of greatness. Finally, I think of my mom, dad, brother, sister, aunts, and cousins and I am saddened by our great loss but joyful in reflecting on a man who brought happiness and unconditional love to each of us and it is these memories that will help heal our broken hearts. For we can find comfort in knowing that Uncle Buddy is at last home. I love you Uncle Buddy, Beth

I will never forget my wonderful memories of Bud and Lou. I feel very blessed that I was at the right church at the time to get to know them. Bud baptized me and I spent many hours in the classroom with him. If you needed him, he was always there, with a smile. You are all in my prayers, may God be with you.April (Lang)Curl
