I was enrolled in the Cradle Roll at the age of 6 weeks in 1942 at 9th & O. It was the only church I knew until I left for college and military service. I was acquainted with every pastor from then until 1974 when I moved to Texas. Bro. B left a legacy as no other did as can be witnessed by reading the remembrances.
At funerals he told families to hold on to the memories of their loved one to ease their grief. To his family I can recommend this because I know it works. You have my sympathy in this dark hour. but we know he is enjoying his reward in Heaven and time with Jesus.

Shirley and family.
Brother Butler was always a loving, caring, and generous man. As a pastor he was always energetic and wanting to move forward by adding to the Kingdom of God. He always preached the Truth of the Bible and told it like it is. Sandy, David, and Rick, may the legacy of your father be carried on through you. As you each grieve in your loss may you also draw strength knowing that Brother B. was greeted by "WELL DONE, MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT.

For the past 30 years, Laverne has been a friend, mentor, and hero of the faith. He played a huge role in the Conservative resurgence in the SBC. As he would say, he was "conservative before it was cool to be a conservative." He was a dynamic preacher, a visionary leader, and a staunch defender of the "faith which was once for all delivered to the saints." Our loss is heaven's gain!

Bro. Butler was my father in the faith. I came to know the Lord through the bus ministry. Through the years Bro. B continued to invest in my life. The Lord called me into the ministry, and Bro. B was always there to encourage and challenge me. Last Fall He surprised me with a visit to our current church. At a time when his health was failing, he continued to pour into my life. For that I am eternally grateful. The family has our prayers. Just another bus kid, Allen Bonnell.

Bro. Butler--truly a man of God. He served the Lord whenever, wherever and however the Lord directed. We learned much from him as our pastor and as we served alongside him on the staff of 9th & O Baptist Church and school. His leadership and counsel were always invaluable and we have recalled both many times in the past 20 years.
Love and blessings to you, Butler family; thank you for sharing your dad with us.

Bro. Butler was there the day I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, he was also the one who baptized me a couple of weeks later. A great man, I looked up to as a child and an adult. I know God was ready to have this wonderful man home with him. He is happy and at peace, my prayers are with his family. May their pain ease with time and know he is still with them and watching over them.
